Her love for all animals, regardless of species including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, and horses, is evident as she greets every newcomer to the shelter, ensuring they know they have someone on their side from the very beginning. According to Darlene Kindle, who founded CERA, Molly approaches every animal with a friendly tail wag, sniffs, and gives them kisses as if they were long-lost friends. Recently, Sammie, a malnourished silver dapple miniature horse was brought in for help and the 3-year-old dog knew just what to do to offer her support.
In July, a horse named Sammie was discovered wandering the streets of South Carolina by an animal control officer who was concerned about his well-being. Sadly, the poor animal was in dire straits and required special attention if he was going to survive. Upon examination at a nearby veterinarian clinic, it was found that Sammie was severely underweight, had troubling dental issues, and possibly suffered from a birth defect that caused hind limb problems. The road to recovery would be long and costly, and the vet suggested euthanasia if a permanent home couldn’t be found.
The shelter reached out to Kindle with the goal of finding a suitable home for the horse, Sammie. Knowing that Sammie required medical attention, Kindle consulted a veterinarian to explore potential treatments. After a series of questions, Kindle asked if Sammie had the determination to survive. Once the vet confirmed Sammie’s fighting spirit, Kindle made the decision to take him in and support his recovery. When Sammie arrived at the rescue, he immediately showed signs of improvement by lowering his head and grazing on grass.
When the visitor arrived, Molly was there to welcome them as usual, but Sammie was too engrossed in his meal to give them much attention. Later that night, Molly paid a return visit to Sammie’s pen after their initial encounter. While Sammie slept, Molly spent some time rocking in her seat outside. As someone who doesn’t sleep much at night, this was a calming way to pass the time.
According to Kindle, Molly approached the horse and started comforting him. She captured their amazing relationship on her phone and shared it on Facebook. Kindle explained that Molly has a unique ability to sense when an animal is unhappy or not feeling well, and she introduces herself in a kind manner. She considers this her profession, and Molly excels at it. Unfortunately, Sammie’s medical issues cannot be addressed until he gains weight. As a result, he is eating three nutritious meals a day and taking “power walks” with Kindle to strengthen his hindquarters. Despite the challenges ahead, Sammie seems happy to have Molly by his side.
